Happy Hearts Fund Partners with Philam Foundation for New Schools in Philippines
Happy Hearts Fund has partnered once again with the Philam Foundation to rebuild schools in areas of the Philippines impacted by Typhoon Glenda. On Friday, June 17, 2016, Our founder, Petra Nemcova met with Philam Foundation president Max Ventura to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Philippines Consulate General in New York City. Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach, also attended the event to show her support for the proposed work.
The signed MOU cited two schools for reconstruction, Oas Polytechnic School and Severe National High School, both of which were hit hard by the typhoon. The two schools are located in a very poor region of the Philippines, compounding the affects of the natural disaster and preventing the community from rebuilding independently. Children attending these schools are currently studying in temporary classrooms without roofs.
When completed, the schools will together serve a total of 717 students annually, having a wide-reaching impact on the community at large. Ms. Wurtzbach, who is half-Filipino and grew up in the country, spoke of her commitment to the project: “Relief operations are close to my heart, ” she said. “I have seen it myself. Let’s continue on so we can make a better Philippines.”
