HAPPY HEARTS FUND HAS BUILT ITS 92ND SCHOOL
We’re excited to announce that Happy Hearts Fund has officially opened 92 schools!
This brings us even closer to our goal of opening 100 schools by the 10th anniversary of the Indian Ocean Tsunami — the disaster that inspired the founding of Happy Hearts Fund.
In August we reached a milestone by opening our 90th school — in partnership with the Carlos Slim Foundation — in Veracruz, Mexico. This month, the two newest construction projects brought us to specific regions of Indonesia that have been affected by different natural disasters. Here’s a look at our latest completed schools.
The SD Ummul Khoir elementary school was built in Jakarta in West Java, Indonesia. Severe flooding last year and earlier this year damaged the building. But now, a disaster-resistant design will prevent future destruction, ensuring its students a safe place to learn and play (there’s a new playground, too).
TK Babusalam is a Kindergarten in the Bandung region of West Java in Indonesia, which was devastated by a massive earthquake in 2009. This new school will provide the community with better access to early childhood education, and the building’s colorful, hand-painted murals provide just enough whimsy to excite children about learning.
Many thanks to all of our partners, donors, sponsors, and supporters — we couldn’t do it without you!
